Walking Distance.

Annie and Gabe live very close to us. We should go over there more often, because they have giant Elmos, and chocolate covered graham crackers.

Just June.

Cast comes off June 6th at 8:20am. Dr. Mehlman suggested that we get her used to the noise of the saw by running the vacuum cleaner.

I pointed out that his mistake was in thinking that I vacuum.

Regardless, I think I'm going to get her a tiny ZZ Top tee for the occasion. She's got legs.

Still Purple.

We are pleased to announce that we have reached the halfway point. Very pleased. Super pleased. Would love a glass of wine pleased.

Scarlett's hip was pronounced "Very, very, stable" by the esteemed Dr. Mehlman. The MRI confirmed it. 6 more weeks of the cast, and then into a brace.

We are spending the night at Children's. Scarlett's procedure was late in the day, and she is still under the affects of the anesthesia. But the difference between the two procedures is vast - Scarlett has very little pain, and although groggy, she is charming the staff, and bending them to do her bidding.

We'll be home in the morning. Thanks to everyone for all your good wishes!

Cast Update

Tomorrow we go back to Children's Hospital for a cast change and an MRI. We aren't willing to call it the halfway point just yet. But God willing, it is.

We'll let everyone know the results. Small chance of an overnight stay, but most likely we'll be home tomorrow evening.

Arts and Crafts.

See? 18 months. She's ready for art school. I think mixed media.

Perhaps we should have specified.

Larry, when we sent you off to Memphis, and told you to meet a nice southern belle, we meant one that lived in the general area.

She is southern, so I guess I can see how you made that mistake. I wonder what she'll think of goetta?

Designer for hire.

Lively chat, and margaritas at Cactus Pear. Ronan, when you are finally done with that silly soy stuff, you too can eat lemons and black beans for a well rounded dinner.

Anne, enjoy this respite. For tips on how to occupy your "time off", check with Kevin. He will be happy to loan you his PS3. Or rather, I will.

As discussed, we could resurrect early Friday happy hours. I mean playdates.

No, you cannot have my pretzel.

I mean, I'M glad it finally stopped snowing. Others are less than enthused.

It is finally spring. Of course, not everyone relished the idea of an early morning stroll. Some people just wanted crackers, and to play with the golden retriever behind the invisible fence.

"Doggie!"

"The doggie can't leave it's yard, sweetie."

"Doggie!"

"The doggie has to stay there."

"DOGGIE!!!"

"If the doggie comes too close, it will get the shock of it's furry little lifetime."

"...doooooggggiiiiieeeee....." sob.

By the way, it should be noted that we had a perfectly good doggie at the end of a 6 foot nylon leash.

Perspective

"You know, maybe the problem isn't that she licks too much, it's that we don't lick enough."

7:42 on a Saturday night, and I'm blogging.

Look at that brute. He's about to go after my delicate lily. You can see it in his eyes. But Scarlett is secretly being trained in cage fighting. She's prepared to pile drive his diapered butt.

Actually, that's the first picture I have found of Scarlett and Forrest where they don't look positively related. At dinner with the gang one night, a woman at the table behind ours asked if they were twins. We explained no, Scarlett is like 8 months older, and that we were all just friends. She replied "Very GOOD friends."

Don't worry, I still love Starbucks.

But there's a new man in town. Meet my Kuerig single cup coffee maker.

30 seconds to brew. Nothing to clean. Options? You want options? Coffee? Tea? Hot chocolate? French roast? Kona? Herbal?

It does not make cappuccino. I do not care. It makes me a hot cup of happy at 7:01 am, no gasoline required. Come visit. You can pick your flavor, and we'll share a moment of our lives.

The Perfect Storm.

It happened. We ran out of oyster crackers, Cheddar Bunnies, and Bunny Grahams at the same time. For a toddler who subsists primarily on crackers and air, this was a problem.

So we went to the store, where I realized something else important. I can't look at food yet. Specifically, any type of animal based protein, and/or anything that smells funny.

Also, I probably should have not gone to the market located next to the very restaurant where we had carry out Sunday night. I accidentally looked in the window and passed out.

My poor sainted mother, who came to help on Monday, fell victim last night. She called me and asked when it was safe to eat toast. I told her next Tuesday.

Sorry, Mom.

It's 80's-Riffic

The stomach flu has arrived in our house, and since no one wants to hear about *that*, I refer you instead to You Tube's tribute to the first of April. Click on any video on the front page.
